3.00.00pm GMT Fri 26th Mar 2010

Mike Pringle MSP has given his backing to the Yellow School Bus Commission.

The Commission was established to examine and quantify the environmental, social, educational, time and cost benefits of a nationwide network of dedicated home to school transport. It reviewed the yellow school bus initiatives already operating in the Britain, as well as looking at examples from the United States.

The Commission's report and recommendations were published on 12 September 2008 and since then it has been campaigning hard to establish a nation network of school buses to provide a safe and environmentally friendly way for children to get to school.

Mike said

"The Yellow School Bus campaign is an excellent initiative.

"By getting more children travelling to and from school out of cars and onto buses it will not only help protect the environment but promote safety and relieve some of the pressure on already hard pressed parents.

"I urge the Scottish and UK Government's to look seriously at these proposals."
