Twin Spectres Still Haunt Labour's Electoral Chances in Edinburgh South6.00.00pm GMT Thu 28th Jan 2010 Commenting ahead of Tony Blair's appearance at the Chilcot inquiry on the 29th of January as well as his decision to rejoin the campaign trail for the Labour party at this year's General Election Fred Mackintosh, Liberal Democrat Westminster Spokesman for Edinburgh South said, "Labour's electoral chances will always be haunted by the twin spectres of Tony Blair's premiership and the illegal war in Iraq. "As Alistair Campbell's evidence to the Chilcot inquiry clearly showed, Gordon Brown was one of Tony Blair's inner circle on the decision to go to war. The Prime Minister cannot duck responsibility for the decision to go to war." Mike Pringle, Liberal Democrat MSP for Edinburgh South added, "The outcome of the Dutch Iraq war inquiry which found that the war "had no sound mandate under international law" was another devastating blow to Labour's flimsy claims that this war was in any way legal. I look forward to the conclusion of the Chilcot inquiry so that the exact truth behind the decision to go to was in Iraq can be established."
