Mike Pringle welcomes news on disabled parking spaces

Mike Pringle MSP has welcomed news that from the 1st of October all Blue Badge holders who live outside the Controlled Parking Zone will be entitled to an enforceable parking space near their home.

The change will be excellent news for disabled residents across South Edinburgh living outside the zone who up until now have only been entitled to an advisory parking space, not enforceable by law.

Mike Pringle said

"This is excellent news for disabled residents in Edinburgh South. I'm delighted that they Council has moved quickly to enforce the new rules.

"I am a blue badge holder myself so I know the challenges that face disabled people trying to park. Not having a guaranteed parking space outside your home can all too easily lead to isolation as residents worry that they will not have a space to come back to."

Gordon Mackenzie, City of Edinburgh Council Transport Convener, said

"We have acted swiftly to ensure that the residents parking spaces are protected by law and plan to continue to work to improve disabled parking access throughout the city."
