Fred Mackintosh pledges to do his bit for the armed forces family

Edinburgh South Liberal Democrat Westminster Spokesperson has pledged to do his bit the whole Armed Forces family beyond the next general election.

Fred Mackintosh was responding to the Royal British Legion Manifesto for the next general election.

The manifesto sets out priorities for the next Government to improve conditions for the British Armed Forces past and present and their families. It encourages MPs to "do their bit" for Service Personnel and their families, the bereaved, veterans and dependents.

Kevin Shinkwin, the Legion's Head of Public Affairs, said, "We are really grateful to Fred Mackintosh for pledging to do his bit. The entire Armed Forces family needs the support of politicians from all parties, and our manifesto outlines practical ways the next Government can help."

Fred Mackintosh said, "The Royal British Legion have an important role to play in highlighting the needs of the whole Armed Forces family. Not enough is being done to help former service personnel when it comes to issues such as education and training, health care and financial support.

Fred Mackintosh and the Liberal Democrats are campaigning for a better deal for Britain's junior soldiers, sailors and airmen and women. Their proposals would bring the pay of the lower ranks in line with the hourly-rate of trainee and development-level Fire-fighters, as well as new-entrant police constables. Under our proposals no service personnel would receive less basic annual pay than a new-entrant police constable or development-level fire-fighter.
