Sunday and Evening Services Returns to the 42

9.45.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 27th Jul 2009

The Liberal Democrat led City Council is to restore an hourly Sunday and evening service to the 42 bus route linking the City Centre to Portobello via Causewayside, Mayfield Road and Cameron Toll.

Mayfield Road resident and regular 42 bus passenger Fred Mackintosh commented, "This is good news for Newington and Sciennes. The fuel price rises last year resulted in the loss of these services and I am delighted that the Liberal Democrat led City Council has stepped in to bring back these useful services"

This investment will provide 2,100 people with an evening or Sunday service that has been removed when the commercial journeys were cut by Lothian Buses. The additional evening and weekend journeys will be provided by Lothian Buses at a weekly cost to the city of £948.

There are no changes to the 24 in South Edinburgh although the Lothian Service will no longer run at its western end beyond the Davidsons Mains.
