Evening Recycling for Old Dalkeith Road Recycling Centre11.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 9th Apr 2008 Due to popular demand the Lib Dem led council has extended the opening hours of the Craigmillar Community Recycling Centre at Old Dalkeith Road for the summer months. The centre will stay open until 7:30pm on weekday evenings and 6pm at the weekend. It will continue to open at 8am each morning. The centre located on Old Dalkeith Road is for domestic waste only it has recycling facilities for packaging materials, gas canisters, car batteries, textiles, engine oil, garden waste, glass, paper, scrap metals, inert waste, cardboard waste and solid wood. There is also a Reuse Cabin, where quality household goods can be donated to charity. Councillor Robert Aldridge, Lib Dem Environment Leader, said: "We want to make recycling as easy as possible for our residents. The Community Recycling Centres provide a one-stop-shop for all of your recycling. In extending the opening hours we are making it even more convenient for people to follow the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle message. "Edinburgh is doing extremely well with its goal towards zero waste. We are on target to meet and possibly even exceed our 30 per cent recycling target for 2008/09. By cutting down on waste and collecting a wider range of materials for recycling, we can prevent more refuse from ending up unnecessarily in landfill and cut the amount of harmful gases resulting from landfill disposal."
