"Thumbs up for Southouse/Burdiehouse" says Councillor Snowden

Lib Dem Councillor for Liberton/Gilmerton Conor Snowden has welcomed the decision to press ahead with the building of the new Community Centre for Southhouse/Burdiehouse.

Despite the terrible financial situation inherited from the previous Labour Council the new Lib Dem-led administration is now able to confirm that the centre will go ahead despite an increase in costs caused by the first builder walking off site in October.

Councillor Snowden said, "The Lib Dems have always been committed to this centre. Everyone was put in a terrible situation when the builder left but this is great news that we are going to the second bidder. This is the best Christmas present the local community could have hoped for."

The centre has over 700 regular users. Councillor Marilyne MacLaren, the City's Education Leader, said: "I felt that we had a moral obligation to ensure that this project goes ahead. I look forward to delivering an enhanced and modern facility that we have worked so hard to bring about."
