Mackintosh backs call for annual carbon budget day

9.00.02pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 17th Oct 2007

Speaking at the recent Scottish Liberal Democrats Autumn Conference in Glasgow, Edinburgh South Westminster Spokesperson Fred Mackintosh backed a successful amendment calling for annual carbon emission targets for each sector of the economy.

Fred said, "We need a carbon budget day each year so that Ministers are held to account for their record throughout the life of each Scottish Parliament. We must make Ministers sweat so we all don't have to"

In September, Liberal Democrats at their conference in Brighton agreed policies that would see a 4p cut in income tax, paid for by increasing the tax burden on those who cause the most pollution. All with the objective of creating a carbon neutral Britain by 2050.
