Liberton/Gilmerton Lib Dem Councillor Conor Snowden has been elected Vice-Convenor of Nuclear free Local Authorities Scotland, at a recent meeting in Glasgow. The group Councillors from 10 Local Authorities from across Scotland campaigns to keep Scotland nuclear power and nuclear weapons free. It has taken on added significance with the recent Labour Government support new nuclear power stations and nuclear weapons.

Councillor Snowden said, "Many people do not know that Edinburgh City bypass is used to transport nuclear weapons to Faslane. I find this repugnant. The government also wants to waste billions on new nuclear power stations and weapons that will not help global security or climate change. I want to campaign on behalf of Edinburgh to keep us nuclear free."

The Labour Government in London is currently designing a new generation of British nuclear weapons and delivery systems to replace Trident. A decision opposed by the Liberal Democrats
