Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate Fred Mackintosh has welcomed the Audit Scotland report into Edinburgh's Tram Project. "I am delighted that Scotland's top auditors have confirmed that the project is well run and based on sound financial calculations. The Scottish Executive must get on and make the commitment to Edinburgh's first tram line."
Until April 2007 Fred Mackintosh was the Liberal Democrat director of Transport Edinburgh Limited - Edinburgh's Tram Company - until he stood down as a councillor to focus on his campaign to be come Edinburgh South's next MP.
"The Liberal Democrats have always supported the return of trams to our city. The first line from the airport to Leith will get commuters out of their cars and make possible the new developments in the north of the city. How the SNP think a town the size of Falkirk can be built in Leith without trams I have no idea."
