At the council budget meeting on 8th February Liberal Democrat councillors proposed building a new library in the area - Labour voted the idea down.

Unlike most of Edinburgh Alnwickhill does not have a local library. For years Labour councillors have talked of wanting to build one. Fred Mackintosh said:

"Isn't this typical. A new library for Alnwickhill would really make a difference for our community, Even when funding is identified to build our new library Labour still vote it down."
