The re-election of Mike Pringle as local MSP on 3rd May 2007 confirms that the Edinburgh South Westminster Constituency is a clear contest between local resident Fred Mackintosh and the sitting Labour MP. The Liberal Democrats won more votes than any other party in the polling districts that make up the Edinburgh South Westminster Constituency.

Battle has been renewed in Edinburgh South between Liberal Democrats and Labour after local Liberal Democrat campaigners demanded to know why Labour rejected calls to back Post Office services that help keep branches in business. Edinburgh South is still reeling from the decision to close Warrender Park Road Post Office on 20 November despite thousands of objections from the local community
There has been shock amongst local residents as Edinburgh South's Labour MP is making misleading claims on his website that he is appealing against the recent decision to close Warrender Park Road Post Office in Marchmont.
In a shameful attempt to shift the blame for Post Office closures Labour councillor Ian Murray has submitted a formal question to City of Edinburgh Council Leader Jenny Dawe, asking her to explain what steps the Liberal Democrats have taken to save Warrender Park Road Post Office.
300 people have now signed the petition launched by the Liberal Democrats to protect the green belt in and around Braid Hills. Developers plan to build hundreds of new houses on four areas of green belt in South Edinburgh. These plans were rejected by the City Planning Committee in October 2007, but a public inquiry into the issue has now begun and will continue until December.
